The End of Life Options Act - Californian bill SB 128 -  passed a 23-14 vote in the Senate in June. Senators Monning and Wolk sponsored this Bill, following the Oregon model. A serious and first important step towards legalisation was taken. But, before the Assembly Health Committee was going to debate and tear down the bill on July 7, the lawmakers decided to

withdraw their proposal and drop the efforts via legislature. They vowed to continue their fight, this time possibly by taking the issue before voters, like happened in Oregon and Washington.

 

The Los Angeles Times (July 9) in an Editorial commented on the defeat: " It is unconscionable that California can't seem to pass a modest, sensible bill that would allow terminally ill people to end their lives peacefully and painlessly. ...". Click here for complete article.
