Good news for Californians with a terminal illness peace of mind in their final days: they can still count on the End of Life Option Act. On February 27, the Supreme Court denied the petition of the opponents of California's End of Life Option Act. This denial means the law continues to be in effect.

In Montana a bill to make MAiD illegal has passed the House of Representatives

On Thursday, February 14, 2019, the Montana House of Representatives voted yes to a bill 'providing that consent to physician aid in dying is not a defense'. Thereby this bill has passed the House and will, as next step, be discussed in the Senate.  The bill, HB 284, was introduced by Montana State Representative Carl Glimm

California AG asks the Supreme Court to deny the petition against the End of Life Option Act

In Nevada a bill to allow MAiD is introduced in the Senate

On Thursday, February 14, 2019, Senate Bill 165 was introduced in the Senate of Nevada and referred to the Health and Human Services committee for hearings. The bill is sponsored by Nevada senator David Parks (Democrats Las Vegas), and 16 other legislators. David Parks already filed a bill about assisted dying, SB 261, in 2017. Unfotunately, that bill did not pass.

Belgian euthanasia pioneer Etienne Vermeersch died

On January 18, 2019, Etienne Vermeersch died. He opted for euthanasia (after a long illness). He wrote shortly before his death: ' I die thanks to my life's work. I do not want to serve as a role model. My death is not a statement. Every man has to make up for himself how he wants to die '.
