On August 27, a draft law to regulate euthanasia was presented to the Congress of the republic Colombia. The bill intends to fill the void that exists in Colombia for 22 years, since a 1997 sentence of the Constitutional Court. The bill provides guidelines for the application of euthanasia, both for patients with end-stage disease and for patients with chronic disease with a high impact on quality of life.

In a letter dated July 5, 2019, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC) dismissed an official complaint against doctor Ellen Wiebe, saying the Vancouver doctor did not break any of the regulator’s rules when she helped a man of 83 dying. 

VAD bill introduced in West Australia

On August 6th a Voluntary Assisted Dying bill was tabled in the Lower House of West Australia. The bill includes 102 safeguards with measures to assess a person’s capacity as well as strict eligibility conditions.
